Meet My Guests – Episode 1 – The Making of a Man

Hello, hello, hello! By now, I hope you’ve subscribed to my new podcast, Grown Folk Talk with Natasha Nicole, but if you haven’t don’t worry, I will be providing a wonderful link below to help get you started. You’re Welcome!

So, this first episode of the Who’s the Man series was fiya!!!! And I’m not just saying that because I’m biased to my own podcast…well maybe I am a little bit…but that doesn’t negate the fact that this episode was awesome. Terry Carter, Shannyn Casino, and Ronnie Amiyn did a phenomenal job enlightening me (and I hope you too) about the various ways in which a man can be “made”. While I shared some of their beliefs, there were many things I had not considered and it was refreshing to hear from…well…men about this topic.

From their introductions, you heard all 3 of these men are doing some amazing work in their communities and around the country, but you don’t have to take my word for it, just check out their bios below.

Ronnie Amiyn

A native of Boston, MA (Roxbury, specifically), Ronnie Amiyn is on a mission to change the lives of men and women confined by poverty, the judicial system, and their own ill-conceived self-image.  After returning home from spending 25 years in prison, Ronnie joined forces with several community leaders and activists to begin his mission of turning St. Louis, Missouri, his now second home into a better place for the many Black men, women, and children who reside there.

Ronnie is currently an organizer and mentor with Freedom Community Center, a restorative justice organization based in St. Louis that works to reduce the harm that happens in the Black community by intervening in interpersonal, communal and systemic violence, while building power in the community.  He is also a member of the St. Louis chaper of the national organization, Black Men Build, which is a wide group of Black men from all walks of life who have unified to take on issues that challenge the existence of Black people.
